Well, folks, just when you think public schools couldn’t possibly find one more way to shove leftist social engineering down kids’ throats, an Oregon middle school steps up to the plate with a weeklong indoctrination parade disguised as “Pride Spirit Week.”
You read that right—Arts & Technology Academy in Eugene proudly encouraged middle schoolers to play dress-up as drag queens, gender-bending monarchs, and “queer heroes” without so much as a timely heads-up to parents. What a shocker.
Now, call me old-fashioned, but when did middle school morph from a place to learn math and science into a stage for activist cosplay? And before anyone starts squawking about “tolerance” and “inclusion,” let’s break this down. Monday was “Rainbow-Out” day—fine, wear your colors, knock yourself out.
Eugene Oregon….
The Arts & Technology Academy in the Eugene School District 4J, students celebrated “Pride Spirit Week” with a different theme each day intended to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.

Tuesday, dress in black to remember “lost members” of the LGBTQIA+ community—again, somber stuff, but okay. Then came Wednesday: “Drag Day,” where 11- to 13-year-olds were told to dress like drag queens or kings. Because obviously that’s what middle school is all about now—channeling RuPaul instead of doing algebra.
But it didn’t stop there. Thursday was “Queer Hero Day.” You know, because every 6th grader is fully capable of understanding and evaluating the complex personal lives and legacies of queer celebrities and activists. Freddie Mercury? Iconic voice. But maybe not exactly the figure kids need to emulate at age twelve. And of course, the week wrapped up with “Pride Flag Friday,” because why not round out the festivities by turning the school into a patchwork quilt of identity flags that most kids probably don’t even fully understand?
What’s truly rich is how this was handled. Parents were notified after the first day of events, with a last-minute email that trickled in Monday afternoon—15 minutes after the bell rang. So much for transparency. And while Oregon law requires prior notice for instruction involving human sexuality, the district’s defense? “Most of this wasn’t formal instruction.” Oh, so encouraging kids to dress in drag and celebrate their “queer hero” somehow doesn’t fall under that umbrella? Got it.
Now the district is promising to “work more closely with schools” to improve communication. Translation: they got caught with their hand in the cookie jar and now they’re doing damage control. Meanwhile, this entire charade was proudly aligned with the Oregon Department of Education’s LGBTQ2SIA+ Student Success Plan—a document so stuffed with identity-politics jargon it makes your head spin. And yes, the school board made it very clear they stand firmly against any move—like President Trump’s commonsense executive order recognizing two biological sexes—that dares challenge this relentless gender ideology campaign.

This school has 27% math & 46% reading proficiency ratings. @4Jschools should teach STEM, not QUEER lessons!

Let’s be clear: this isn’t about protecting vulnerable kids or fostering empathy. It’s about pushing a political agenda through the classroom door, bypassing parental input, and using kids as pawns in the culture war. The same school district is also happily engaged in lawsuits to defend racial preferences and equity programs that fly in the face of federal guidelines. Because heaven forbid we teach kids to value merit and equal treatment under the law instead of measuring everyone by identity checkboxes.
Parents have every right to be furious. Public schools exist to educate, not indoctrinate. If families want to teach their children about drag culture and LGBTQ+ history, that’s their prerogative—not something to be force-fed during taxpayer-funded school hours. And when schools start sneaking these events in through the back door, it’s no wonder trust between parents and public education keeps eroding.
So buckle up, folks. If this is what passes for a “safe and inclusive” learning environment these days, you can bet more parents will be looking for the exits. And frankly, who can blame them?
