Another fine example of the absolute lunacy gripping our so-called sanctuary cities. The Department of Homeland Security announced this week that ICE arrested Emiliano Garduno-Galvez—a previously deported illegal immigrant from Mexico—after he allegedly lobbed a Molotov cocktail at law enforcement during the latest round of riots in Los Angeles. Yes, you read that right. A Molotov cocktail. At the police. In America.
Los Angeles, in all its progressive glory, has been dealing with days of chaos thanks to the professional grievance industry and its enablers. You’ve got agitators setting cars on fire, chucking bricks and fireworks at cops, looting businesses, and even targeting the Los Angeles Police Department headquarters. Why all the commotion? Because ICE dared to do its job and enforce immigration law. Imagine that.
Now, Garduno-Galvez isn’t exactly new to the criminal circuit. He’d already been deported once and was arrested last year for grand theft and DUI—because apparently California’s revolving door of justice wasn’t done with him yet. This is the kind of individual the rioters are throwing tantrums over. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin summed it up perfectly: “These are the types of criminal illegal aliens that rioters are fighting to protect.” And let’s be clear, protecting them is exactly what LA’s leaders have been trying to do, even while their streets burn.

While ICE was out arresting hundreds of illegal aliens with criminal records over the weekend, LA’s elected officials were busy undermining them at every turn. The Department of Homeland Security even noted that among those picked up were individuals accused of crimes ranging from robbery to rape to second-degree murder. But heaven forbid anyone suggest that maybe, just maybe, the federal government ought to prioritize the safety of American citizens over the comfort of violent foreign nationals.
Instead, we get virtue-signaling statements, defund-the-police rallies, and a constant stream of media narratives painting ICE as the villain. Meanwhile, ICE officers—the men and women risking their lives to keep these criminals off our streets—are met with bricks, firebombs, and an avalanche of political hostility. And if you think this is limited to Los Angeles, think again. Similar “demonstrations” (read: riots) have been erupting in cities from Asheville to Chicago. The pattern is clear: anarchists create chaos, city leaders cower, and the federal government is left to pick up the pieces.

It’s a sad state of affairs when federal officers have to remind the public that attacking law enforcement will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. It used to go without saying. But in today’s America, where the left seems more interested in defending criminals than defending citizens, nothing is a given anymore.
The bottom line? Our ICE agents are doing heroic work removing dangerous criminals from the streets. The fact that they have to do it under siege from both violent mobs and feckless local politicians is a disgrace. If the leadership in Los Angeles had a shred of integrity, they’d be standing shoulder to shoulder with ICE—not obstructing them. Until that changes, it’s up to DHS and ICE to hold the line. And based on their latest actions, they’re doing just that. America’s law-abiding citizens should be grateful. Heaven knows their city leaders won’t say it.
