Alright, let’s talk about this latest little episode out of Washington, because if you didn’t already have whiplash from Democrat logic, this one might finally do it. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have decided that now is the moment to draw a hard line in the sand: taxpayer dollars, they say, must not be used for immigration enforcement near “sensitive locations.” And buried in that warm, fuzzy list of hospitals, schools, and churches is one location that makes you do a full stop, blink twice, and reread the sentence. Polling places. Yes, polling places.
Now, Lenny here isn’t saying anyone should be dragged out of a voting booth in handcuffs, but the obvious question comes screaming off the page: why, exactly, would there be heightened concern about illegal aliens being anywhere near a polling place to begin with? Because for years we’ve been told this never happens, can’t happen, and suggesting otherwise makes you some kind of conspiracy-loving crank. And yet here we are, with top Democrats proactively demanding that immigration enforcement be kept far, far away from where votes are cast and counted. Funny how that works.
Jeffries and Schumer sent this letter to Republican leadership as part of ongoing DHS funding negotiations, and it reads like a greatest hits album of progressive priorities. One of their key demands is a prohibition on enforcement operations near so-called sensitive locations, explicitly naming polling places alongside medical facilities and churches. And yes, the irony is rich. Suddenly, Democrats are worried about people storming churches and disrupting worshippers? That concern seems to come and go depending on the political weather, but let’s stay focused.
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) have laid out their demands for DHS.
One is that there be no DHS at any polling places.

Senator Katie Britt of Alabama, who’s leading Republicans on the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, wasted no time calling this out. She asked the question every normal American is thinking: why do illegal aliens need special protections at voting sites? Britt isn’t just pushing back rhetorically, either. She’s demanding DHS be fully funded and is pushing for passage of the SAVE Act, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, which is designed to ensure that only American citizens can vote in federal elections. You know, a concept that used to be called common sense.
And just in case anyone thinks this is a one-off or some theoretical concern, look at what’s happening at the state level. As RedState’s Sister Toldjah pointed out, Democrats in Virginia are trying to do something very similar. House Bill 1442 would prohibit anyone from enforcing federal immigration laws within 40 feet of a polling place. Forty feet. Not just inside the building, not just at the door, but a nice wide buffer zone, just to be safe.
It gets even better. The bill would also block immigration enforcement at places where local electoral boards meet to ascertain election results or conduct recounts. Let that sink in for a second. Not only polling places, but the rooms where votes are being tallied and certified. And again, the question practically asks itself: why would Democrats be so adamant that immigration enforcement be kept away from these locations? Why would illegal aliens be hanging around polling places or election offices in the first place?
🔥🚨 BREAKING – Sen. Mark Warner (D) calls to add restrictions in the funding bill on Immigration Enforcement Operations at polling places…

Schumer, for his part, has already declared the SAVE Act racist and insists it’s dead on arrival in the Senate. According to him, requiring proof of citizenship to vote is somehow an act of discrimination. Republicans, meanwhile, are saying something radical: American elections should be decided by American citizens. That’s it. That’s the whole argument.
When you step back and look at the pattern, it’s hard to miss. Republicans want clear rules, enforcement, and confidence in elections. Democrats want “protections” that just happen to shield illegal immigrants in and around the very places where votes are cast and counted. And as Sister Toldjah put it so perfectly, Democrats are once again showing us exactly who they are. At some point, Americans should probably believe them.
