Chicago is bleeding. Week after week, headline after headline, another round of body counts, another parade of tragic stories—and yet the city’s leadership seems more interested in holding philosophy class than actually putting cops on the street. Labor Day weekend alone saw 32 shootings. That’s not a public safety crisis; that’s a war zone. And still, the progressive leadership of Chicago seems more focused on feelings and funding “social programs” than stopping the carnage.
Osiris King, a South Side native, nailed it: “We didn’t play with guns… now kids are carrying guns at eight years old.” Let that sink in. Eight. Meanwhile, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is out here doing mental gymnastics on MSNBC, dodging a basic question like, “Would more police make the streets safer?” Scarborough had to ask him multiple times, and still—nothing. Just the usual progressive song and dance: affordable housing, social equity, expanded programs. Look, no one’s against those things in theory, but it’s hard to enjoy affordable housing when your neighborhood is a shooting gallery.

Now, let’s talk solutions. Former National Guard officer Dennis White said it bluntly: we need 10,000 more cops, not more slogans. And hey, maybe let’s stop spending millions on shelters for illegal immigrants and use that space for mental health services for actual citizens. Crazy idea, I know—prioritizing Americans first. But in 2025, apparently that’s controversial.
President Trump, love him or hate him, did what any responsible executive would at least consider: sending in the National Guard. Because when your city leadership refuses to get serious, sometimes you have to bring in the big boys. Predictably, Mayor Johnson screamed “Constitutional violation” like it’s a reflex. Right, because clearly the bigger violation is the President trying to save American lives, not the decades of Democrat-run incompetence that led to this mess in the first place.
Thank you, Mr. President — we welcome you.

And let’s not pretend like this is just Chicago. FBI data shows multiple Illinois cities—including Peoria, Rockford, and Harvey—have even higher violent crime rates. That’s not a coincidence; that’s a trend. What do they all have in common? Democrat leadership with zero accountability and a deep allergy to law enforcement.
White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said it best: “Cracking down on crime shouldn’t be a partisan issue, but Democrats suffering from TDS are trying to make it one.” Bingo. This isn’t about Trump versus Biden, or red versus blue—it’s about whether cities can function without descending into chaos. Spoiler alert: they can’t if you keep prioritizing ideology over public safety.
Let’s not forget the heartbreaking human toll here. As Vashon Tuncle pointed out, it’s not just gangbangers being taken down—it’s kids. Innocents. Families being destroyed. And yet Chicago’s leadership acts like deploying the National Guard is somehow more offensive than letting toddlers get caught in crossfire.
Even Alderman Nick Sposato, a Trump supporter, expressed concern about the military stepping in. Fair point—troops aren’t cops. But let’s also be honest: if local leadership refuses to empower the police, what other option is left?
And for those like Inspector General Deborah Witzburg, who insist we can’t even talk about officer shortages without a five-part study on departmental task distribution—what exactly are you waiting for? A thesis from Harvard before you admit that people are dying in the streets?
“It’s just gone from bad, to worse, to disaster.”
“No one really feels safe.”
“These kids are carrying guns around the age of 8 years old and they’re killing other kids…”
“Not enough police officers.”

Here’s the deal: the people of Chicago aren’t crying out for another nonprofit. They’re not begging for another task force. They want cops. They want safety. They want to be able to let their kids ride their bikes without fearing gunfire. And if their elected officials won’t listen, maybe it’s time someone else steps in.
You can call that controversial. Or—you can call it leadership.
