A bar in Idaho that’s doing things a little differently this June and it has the left fuming. Instead of celebrating Pride Month, the Old State Saloon in Eagle, a town near Boise, has decided to promote what they’re calling “Heterosexual Awesomeness Month.”
The bar has been getting a lot of attention on social media, with plenty of support along with the expected criticism. They’re offering some special deals to celebrate, like free draft beer for straight men on Mondays and a 15% discount for straight couples on Wednesdays.
The Old State Saloon has been posting updates on its Facebook page since the promotion went viral. They’ve had to ban some people for using offensive language in their comments. They’ve also joked about needing a judge to determine if men’s clothing choices are “officially heterosexual,” offering a pay of $15 an hour plus free beer for the job.
“It seems as though people who are against Heterosexual Awesomeness Month have a hard time commenting without using horrific words, expletives, using the name of the Lord in vain, etc. Make an intelligent comment and stay. Cuss, and you are banned. Thanks. We’ve banned about 25 already,” one post said.
But the bar has also faced some backlash. They’ve had property stolen, vendors refusing to work with them, and even false accusations against the owner. Despite this, they’ve also received a lot of support from people who understand the idea behind “Heterosexual Awesomeness Month” and want to celebrate it with them.
“Since we announced Hetero Awesomeness Month, we’ve had some significant backlash: theft of our property, vendors refusing to fulfill our orders for ingredients, wedding catering cancelation [sic], libel, slander – even the owner being falsely accused of being a sex offender,” a fundraising campaign said.

“But, to the credit of the community that is rational and reasonable, we’ve also received so much support from like-minded people who want to celebrate “Heterosexual Awesomeness Month” with us and get the concept of it as being about freedom and being true to our personal values.”
