In a recent podcast episode of “On Brand with Donny Deutsch,” Democratic strategist James Carville and television personality Donny Deutsch expressed their concerns about the Democratic Party’s struggles with gaining support from Hispanic males.

The conversation highlighted the declining approval ratings for President Joe Biden among Latino Americans, with a May New York Times/Siena College poll revealing that this critical voting bloc is now leaning towards former President Donald Trump by five points in six key swing states.

Carville and Deutsch delved into the reasons behind this shift, focusing particularly on men’s general aversion to the Democratic Party. Carville remarked, “We have a huge male problem all across the board, but particularly, I hate this term, but I’ll use it, ‘communities of color,’ as if all people are not white the same. It’s stupid.”

He elaborated on the perception that the Democratic Party’s culture is too dominated by what he described as “preachy females,” who impose lifestyle choices on voters, such as dietary habits and other personal behaviors. Carville emphasized that this approach alienates hardworking men who feel patronized and disrespected by these attitudes.

“We have a huge male problem all across the board, but particularly, I hate this term, but I’ll use it, ‘communities of color,’ as if all people are not white the same. It’s stupid,” Carville said. “And I do think, and people got a little upset with me when I told The New York Times, I think Democratic culture has too many preachy females. It’s too much, ‘Don’t eat hamburgers, don’t watch football, wear a condom.’ Like, man, shit, leave me alone, okay? I’ve got a goddamn life to lead. You know, a guy works at a tire repair shop in suburban Atlanta, motherfucker’s working 50 hours a week, making $16.50 an hour, and he wants to watch the football game, and he wants to smoke dope and drink beer.”

“And then everybody’s telling him he’s slothful, and they reject that shit,” he added. “I just think some of it is this cosmopolitan condensation, if you will. Like, you need to lead the kind of life we lead, not the kind of life you lead, and it pisses people off.”

Deutsch added that this sentiment resonates across different racial groups and is a significant factor in Trump’s popularity. He noted that many voters are drawn to a strong, dominant male figure, which they associate with Trump.

In the 2020 election, Latino voters favored Biden over Trump by a significant margin, with exit polling from Edison Research indicating a 33% preference for Biden. However, the current trend suggests a shift that could have profound implications for upcoming elections.
