Well, here we are again — another week, another violent incident in our nation’s capital, and still no real accountability from the folks who supposedly run the place. This time, it took a brutal street beating of a former DOGE employee nicknamed “Big Balls” (because of course that’s what they call him) to finally get some national attention. A teenager, Edward Coristine, was nearly beaten to death by gang members in the middle of Washington, D.C., and the only thing more shocking than the crime itself is how numb the city’s leadership has become to this kind of chaos.
But don’t worry — President Trump has had enough of the clown show. In a series of blunt remarks Wednesday night, he made it clear he’s looking into a full-on federal takeover of D.C., including calling in the National Guard, reclaiming control of the city’s joke-of-a-police-department, and yes — potentially scrapping the District of Columbia Home Rule Act altogether. And you know what? It’s about time somebody said it out loud.
For those keeping score at home, the Home Rule Act was passed in 1973 as a kind of “you guys can handle this, right?” experiment to let the District run itself. Fast forward five decades and… well, how’s that going? The streets are unsafe, the infrastructure is collapsing, and gang violence is treated like an unfortunate but inevitable part of urban life. The mayor seems more interested in virtue-signaling press conferences than in actually protecting citizens. And yet somehow, we’re supposed to keep pretending everything’s fine because… feelings?
Trump, being Trump, didn’t mince words. “We want to have a great, safe capital,” he said. Imagine that — the radical idea that maybe the capital of the United States should be clean, safe, and functional. Not a crime-ridden hellscape with collapsing medians and trash blowing around like tumbleweeds in a ghost town. He even said he’s reviewing legal options for rolling back D.C.’s so-called autonomy, because — and here’s the kicker — “We have to run D.C.” Crazy, right?

Let’s be clear: This isn’t just about some local crime stats that went a little haywire. This is a city where elected officials have been asleep at the wheel while criminals run wild in broad daylight. And when a teenager gets beaten within an inch of his life just walking down the street, you’d expect some urgency from city hall. Instead, all we get is the usual routine: platitudes, hashtags, and maybe — maybe — a candlelight vigil.
Meanwhile, Trump picked up the phone and called the kid. Twice. Say what you want about the man, but when he says, “You’re going to be safe walking down streets,” he actually seems to mean it. And that’s more than you can say for D.C. leadership right now.
What makes this even more absurd is how the left will undoubtedly respond. Cue the screaming about “authoritarianism” and “fascism” and “Trump overreach.” Never mind that people are literally getting hospitalized in the streets — no, the real problem, according to the media class, is that the bad orange man wants to clean up the capital.
Here’s a thought: maybe if local officials were doing anything useful, the federal government wouldn’t have to step in. Maybe if public safety was a priority instead of a political inconvenience, we wouldn’t be talking about the National Guard. But D.C. has become a national embarrassment — and not because of Trump’s rhetoric, but because of the reality on the ground.
DOGE staffer Ed Coristine (known as “Big Balls”) came to help a lady in DC getting attacked by 8 “teens”.

So, whether or not the federal government ends up taking control, Trump’s message is loud and clear: enough is enough. The capital city of the United States should not look like a third-world disaster zone. It should be a beacon — not a warning.
And if the local government can’t figure that out? Well, maybe it’s time for some grown-ups to take the wheel.
