After years of screeching about how Donald Trump was going to hand over the keys to the country to Vladimir Putin, the Democrats are now clutching their pearls because Trump’s actually… talking. To world leaders. About peace. You’d think the idea of avoiding endless war would be a bipartisan win, but no — not when it’s Trump doing the negotiating.
Let’s break it down: President Trump just came off a summit with Putin in Alaska (yes, that’s right — Alaska, probably to remind the Russians how close they are to a state they don’t own), and now he’s welcoming Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and a slew of European leaders to the White House. The goal? A ceasefire. Peace. Stability. All the things the left claims to want — until it’s Trump trying to deliver them.
Republicans, unsurprisingly, are backing the move. Senator John Barrasso rightly pointed out that American strength and leadership were on full display. And guess what? European allies are actually stepping up alongside us. No pallets of cash, no backdoor deals, no “leading from behind.” Just straight-up diplomacy with some hard-nosed realism behind it.
Meanwhile, Democrats are already fuming. Why? Because Trump dared to show the world that America can lead with strength and talk to adversaries. The outrage machine is back in business. They’re demanding Congress ram through a sanctions package — not as a backup plan if peace fails, but right now. Before the negotiations even get off the ground. Because if there’s one thing progressives hate more than Putin, it’s Trump succeeding at anything.
Take Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, for example. She’s still pushing her sanctions and security bills — because apparently what this war really needs is more legislation from the people who’ve never met a foreign entanglement they didn’t like. You’d think Democrats would want to give peace talks a chance before breaking out the economic sledgehammer, but apparently, it’s “crush first, negotiate later.”
To their credit, GOP leaders like John Thune and Mike Lee are staying level-headed. They’re making it clear: we want peace, but we’re not afraid to drop the hammer if Russia doesn’t play ball. That’s how real leverage works — you offer a path to the table but keep the stick within reach. Not everything has to be a moral crusade. Sometimes, it’s just about ending wars.
From the beginning of this process, much of the left-wing media has been actively rooting against the President of the United States in his pursuit of peace.

But the Democrat playbook hasn’t changed. They’re still casting Ukraine as some sacred battlefield where any attempt at diplomacy is seen as “appeasement” — so long as Trump’s the one talking. Never mind that the previous administration barely tried to negotiate; they just poured billions into the conflict with no clear exit. Now, suddenly, Zelenskyy at the White House with Trump is a problem? Please.
Even Tim Kaine couldn’t resist throwing in a little backhanded approval, saying decisions can’t be “dictated by Putin’s bloodthirsty regime.” Well, that’s the point, Senator. That’s why we’re leading the negotiations — so that decisions are made in Washington, not Moscow. Trump is bringing all the major players into the same room to hash things out. It’s what actual leadership looks like.
And let’s be honest: none of this has anything to do with Ukraine for most of the folks on the left. It’s about keeping the narrative alive — that Trump is a Putin puppet, that Republicans are isolationists, and that only Democrats can be trusted with foreign policy (even if it means 20 years in Afghanistan and a few drone strikes along the way). Spoiler alert: nobody’s buying it anymore.
Here’s the truth — if Trump can broker a ceasefire, even a temporary one, it’ll be more than the last administration managed. And if that doesn’t happen, Republicans are still prepared to hit Moscow with the full weight of U.S. sanctions. Either way, we’re not going to pretend like handing Ukraine a blank check forever is some noble act of international heroism.
Zelenskyy confirms that he needs Trump to be present at any meeting between Russia and Ukraine.
We all know that Putin respects power, and Trump has no problem wielding it.

This isn’t about scoring points. It’s about ending a war — and maybe, just maybe, putting America’s interests first for a change. Something the other side of the aisle seems to have forgotten how to do.
