Well, here we go again. Another week, another round of left-wing organizations skirting the line between “peaceful protest” and “hey, let’s burn the place down.” And bless his heart, Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri is about the only one in D.C. with enough spine to start asking who’s footing the bill.
Now, apparently, there’s been quite the rash of “spontaneous” anti-ICE riots cropping up—first in Los Angeles, and now conveniently spreading like wildfire to places like Chicago and St. Louis. Because, sure, nothing says “grassroots” like the exact same chaos pattern in multiple major cities. But don’t expect the usual suspects to own up to it. Hawley’s knocking on the doors of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), and the Union del Barrio (UD), demanding answers. And surprise, surprise—not a peep yet.
Of course, if you’ve been paying attention, you won’t be shocked. Groups like CHIRLA have been raking in government grants like a kid in a candy store—$34 million, to be exact, including $750,000 courtesy of the Biden administration. All while running a “Rapid Response Network” that helps illegal immigrants dodge law enforcement. Can’t make this stuff up. And that’s just the money we know about.
Hawley’s not playing games here. He’s threatening subpoenas and public hearings. Good. The American people deserve to know if their tax dollars are helping bankroll what amounts to organized anarchy. And he’s absolutely right: this is not protected speech. It’s aiding and abetting criminal conduct. When you’re cutting checks and booking flights to help agitators hop from city to city to incite violence, you’re not a protester. You’re an accessory.
Sen Josh @HawleyMO: Anti-ICE Protests Are As Authentic As AstroTurf
“These aren’t spontaneous at all. They’re about as authentic as astroturf. They are bought and paid for flash mobs, and I want to know who’s doing the buying and the paying. That’s why today I’ve launched an… pic.twitter.com/RwsgXf6VGZ

Meanwhile, CHIRLA, PSL, and UD are conveniently silent. Maybe they think if they ignore Hawley long enough, this will all blow over. Newsflash—it won’t. Not when there are travel records, donor lists, and internal communications on the table. If these groups have nothing to hide, why the radio silence?
It’s about time someone called this out for what it is: a coordinated effort to undermine law enforcement and destabilize communities under the guise of “activism.” And while Biden’s team was busy cutting checks to groups like CHIRLA, President Trump had already started pulling the plug. Naturally, California and city-level lefties picked up the slack—because heaven forbid they let a little thing like national sovereignty get in the way of their open-border fantasies.
Trump summed it up perfectly: these aren’t grassroots protesters. They’re professional agitators, insurrectionists. The kind of people who should be behind bars, not on the payroll of taxpayer-funded organizations. And as for California Gov. Gavin Newsom—well, if Trump’s ready to slap cuffs on him for letting his state turn into a circus, I doubt too many folks outside of Sacramento would shed a tear.
So hats off to Hawley. Let’s hope he keeps the pressure on. It’s about time someone dragged this rotten mess into the sunlight and started asking the hard questions. Because if we keep pretending this is just spontaneous civic engagement, we’re all going to wake up in a country we don’t recognize. And the only ones smiling then will be the radicals who got away with it—again.
