In a bold new approach to immigration enforcement, President Donald Trump is urging illegal immigrants to voluntarily leave the United States through a newly developed app from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The app, called CBP Home, is designed to facilitate self-deportation, a stark departure from the Biden administration’s CBP One app, which was used to admit migrants into the country.

Trump’s message, set to be released on social media this week, leaves no room for ambiguity. “People in our country can self-deport the easy way, or they can get deported the hard way, and that’s not pleasant,” he warns. The administration’s stance is clear: those who choose to leave voluntarily now may have a path to return legally in the future. Those who do not will face deportation and permanent exclusion from the United States.

The CBP Home app allows illegal immigrants to declare their intent to leave, submit relevant documentation, and verify their departure. However, this self-reporting tool is only available to those who originally entered under the Biden administration’s now-defunct CBP One parole system. By introducing this app, Trump’s administration aims to streamline deportations while freeing up law enforcement resources to focus on violent offenders.

Since returning to office, Trump has moved quickly to dismantle Biden-era immigration policies. He immediately ended the use of CBP One for parole purposes, suspended applications for parole programs, and empowered ICE to revoke parole statuses. The administration has also tightened access to domestic flights for migrants and halted extensions of Temporary Protected Status for certain nationalities.

This shows Trump’s commitment to reducing illegal immigration through firm policies and innovative technological solutions. While critics argue that voluntary deportation is unlikely to see widespread adoption, supporters see CBP Home as a practical tool to encourage compliance with immigration laws while easing the burden on enforcement agencies.
