Oh, how convenient. Another day, another Biden staffer suddenly developing a deep, heartfelt relationship with the Fifth Amendment. This time, it’s Anthony Bernal, a top aide to former First Lady Jill Biden, who seems to have forgotten how transparency works — or maybe he just never believed in it to begin with. Either way, the man who reportedly ran the First Lady’s inner circle like a personal Praetorian Guard apparently couldn’t bring himself to answer basic questions about the man allegedly running the country.
Bernal was supposed to sit down and chat with House Oversight Committee staffers on July 16 about, you know, minor things like whether anyone not named Joe Biden was actually doing the job of President. Pretty straightforward stuff, right? Except instead of answering, he invoked the Fifth Amendment. Repeatedly. Because nothing says “there’s absolutely nothing suspicious going on here” like refusing to answer whether the Commander-in-Chief was actually commanding anything — or even coherent.
This morning, I attended the deposition of Anthony Bernal–Jill Biden’s “work husband.” These are my takeaways:

Let’s not forget, this is the same guy reportedly dubbed the “loyalty police” inside Biden World. The guy who made sure the narrative — not necessarily the truth — stayed intact. And now that narrative is looking shakier than Biden on a bicycle.
But here’s where it gets interesting. House Oversight Chairman James Comer, joined by Florida’s own Byron Donalds, made it crystal clear that Bernal’s dance around the truth isn’t going unnoticed. Comer said all options are on the table, even hinting that the Joe Biden might need to answer some questions himself. Good. Because if the President’s own staffers can’t — or won’t — confirm he was mentally fit while signing executive orders, signing bills, or signing anything at all, then we have a very serious constitutional crisis on our hands.
And before the media spins this into some noble defense of civil liberties, let’s remember: this isn’t just about one man’s health. It’s about whether unelected individuals — possibly including the President’s wife or her staff — were calling the shots while the rest of us were told everything was fine. That’s not just shady; that’s potential fraud against the American public.
Rep. Donalds put it best: if Biden wasn’t running his own administration, then every single order and signature under his name should be considered null and void. And he’s right. You don’t get to sign away trillions in taxpayer dollars, radically reshape American policy, or open the southern border into a chaotic mess if you weren’t mentally competent to understand what you were doing.
Let’s also not ignore the optics of Bernal’s refusal to testify following Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s former White House physician, who also took the Fifth. O’Connor couldn’t even answer his own name without zipping up. His lawyers, of course, claimed it was all about protecting patient-doctor confidentiality — except that doesn’t explain why he couldn’t even answer non-medical questions. You’d think someone with nothing to hide would welcome the chance to clear the air. Instead, the only thing they’re clearing is the room as they make their rapid exits.

And now Annie Tomasini, another top Biden aide, is up next. Will she break the silence or continue the parade of “no comments” dressed up as constitutional rights? We’ll see. But here’s the thing: if these staffers believed Biden was 100% capable, they’d be racing to testify. Instead, they’re lawyering up like cast members in a bad political thriller.
So let’s cut the nonsense. This isn’t about protecting sensitive information. It’s about protecting the legacy — and maybe the legal exposure — of a President whose own staffers seem terrified to discuss his basic functionality. That’s not democracy. That’s dysfunction, pure and simple.
