Ah yes, nothing says “academic excellence” like a panel of Ivy League elites casually flirting with the idea of politically motivated violence — as long as it’s coming from the correct side of the aisle, of course. Welcome to Harvard, where words are violence (unless you’re a conservative), but actual armed activism from the far left? That’s just “beautiful,” “brilliant,” and apparently… “convincing.”
Let’s rewind for a second. This panel, held in 2018 under the charmingly dramatic title “You Don’t Stand Around and Let People Get Hurt: Antifascism After Charlottesville,” was hosted by Harvard’s Carr-Ryan Center for Human Rights. You’d be forgiven for thinking “human rights” might include, say, opposing violence, preserving free speech, or maintaining some ideological neutrality on campus. But nope. Instead, we got a cozy academic group hug for Professor Dwayne Dixon — who, let’s not forget, just got placed on leave by UNC for his little hobby of armed political cosplay with the far-left militia club Redneck Revolt.
During the panel, Harvard professors — Education’s Timothy McCarthy, History’s Vincent Brown, and Lisa McGirr — all sat around nodding along as Dixon spun his tale of vigilante glory, portraying his group’s presence in Charlottesville as a righteous crusade against a supposed army of fascists. The fact that terms like “Nazi,” “White supremacist,” and “fascist” have been hurled at everyday Trump supporters and middle-aged dads in MAGA hats for years? Not worth a single clarifying word. Apparently, nuance isn’t in the curriculum anymore.
Vincent Brown warmed up the crowd by suggesting that punching Nazis is obviously okay because, well, Indiana Jones did it. That’s the level of political discourse we’re dealing with here. Then McCarthy jumps in to claim that LGBTQ Americans are living under a “fascist state” led by Trump and Pence, as though democracy itself had been outlawed and tanks were rolling down Main Street. Again, not a peep about distinguishing actual threats from political disagreement. Why bother when hysteria plays so well in academic circles?
Dixon — whose group was sued by Charlottesville for violating anti-paramilitary laws — quoted Frederick Douglass to defend the idea of meeting the “system” with its own weapons. Now, let’s be clear: Douglass fought against actual slavery. Equating that to contemporary political disagreements — especially those involving peaceful Trump voters — is not only historically dishonest, it’s insulting. But somehow, Dixon’s repackaging of armed resistance for 21st-century progressive audiences earned a standing ovation from professors who are supposedly dedicated to “reasoned debate.”
Even McGirr, who admitted she walked into the room skeptical, left convinced that perhaps there is a place for armed resistance — as long as it’s the Left holding the weapons, of course. Replace “Redneck Revolt” with “Oath Keepers” and imagine the reaction if this were a conservative professor advocating for armed presence at BLM rallies. You’d have MSNBC anchors setting their hair on fire and Harvard faculty issuing emergency condemnations by the hour. But in this case? The YouTube video quietly disappears and Harvard doesn’t return press inquiries.
Left-wing violence is exploding since Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

And let’s not forget the kicker — these are the same people whose institution receives billions in federal grant money. In fact, President Trump froze $2.4 billion in taxpayer funds earlier this year after Harvard’s little brush with pro-Hamas protests and rising antisemitism on campus. Harvard, naturally, panicked. And now they’re back at the table, cutting a deal that includes, of all things, trade schools. Imagine that — ivory tower elites suddenly pretending to care about skilled labor. A beautiful turn of irony if there ever was one.

So here we are. A public university puts a professor on leave for armed political activism, and Harvard professors act like he’s some kind of folk hero. No outrage. No accountability. Just glowing reviews and not a single condemnation of political violence — unless, of course, that violence comes from someone who dares wear a red hat.

If this is the moral compass of academia, it’s spinning like a ceiling fan in a hurricane.
